The Beringer family has been pursuing the passion of winemaking for over 140 years! When Jacob Beringer was enticed to leave Germany for the new world and landed in New York only to hear about the rocky hillsides and fertile soils of the Napa Valley. He and his brother Frederick purchased his 215 acres of land in 1875, and opened one of the very first commercial wineries in Napa. Due to their pioneering spirit, the Beringer Brothers were leaders in many modern winemaking techniques such as including gravity fed wine making equipment and hand dug caves and cellars. They were also the first to give a public wine tour and in 1934, started a great Napa Valley tradition they still excel at today.

Beringer Vineyards Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Napa ValleyThe Beringer brothers dug their winery into the cool east facing slopes of the Napa Valley and had it up and running in time for the harvest of 1877. As was customary in their German homeland, they dug the winery into a hill to use gravity in winemaking, and to keep the entire place cool. They would use a horse and buggy to take the grapes to the third floor where they were pressed, the fresh juice ran down by gravity to the second floor for fermentation, then finally to the ground floor for bottling and cellaring. This ingenious winery design has been used before, and many times since, because winemaking is more gentle and low impact on the wine itself.

The Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship wine of the estate and a true reflection of each vintage that consistently highlights Napa Valley Cabernet in its purist form. Beringer Vineyards offer an hour long tour that conveys the story of the Private Reserve program while tasting through Private Reserve Single Barrel Cabernets alongside the flagship wine to illustrate the dynamic relationships between the extraordinary vineyards and winemaking techniques. Hosted by a senior staff member in a private room in the Rhine House tasting salon, the experience is a must for serious wine enthusiasts who are interested in learning much more about terroir and sub-appellations of the Napa Valley.

Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet SauvignonBeringer has long honed, deepened, and expanded on the art of winemaking. Their pursuit of balance between modern technology and time tested tradition is at the heart of the winemaking team. Jacob Beringer’s great great grandson and now Chief Winemaker Mark Beringer continues the long standing family tradition of great winemaking every bottle he produces. The winery operates over 1600 acres that are farmed across Napa, Sonoma and Paso Robles. Mark and his team are guiding on of the finest operations in the Napa Valley, and indeed across the globe.
