Chase Cellars – Historical Vineyard and Family-Friendly Fun

http://www.chasecellars.com/

Come take a virtual “trolley ride” with us to another one of our favorite Napa Valley wineries. Chase Cellars is located against the western hills of Napa Valley, just south of St. Helena. They have been sustainably growing Zinfandel grapes on their 45-acre property for five generations! Using no chemical intervention, this dry farmed, hand-tended historical vineyard (Hayne Vineyard) is home to 112-year old heritage Zinfandel vines. From these grapes comes some of California’s most sought after, highly-rated Zinfandel.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhile their vineyard only produces Zinfandel grapes, Chase Cellars sources additional grapes for other varietals including Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. In total, Chase Cellars only produces about 2000 cases of wine. This makes their wines even more sought after.

Chase Cellars is also full of history. Founded by Sarah Esther Chase Bourn in 1872, it is now owned by her great, great grandchildren, Katie Simpson and Mike Simpson.

Why We Love Chase Cellars

Chase Cellars is a small, family-owned winery that make its guests feel like family when they arrive. Tastings are informal and by appointment only. Weather permitting, guests typically enjoy their tasting “al fresco” in the olive oil grove that overlooks the historic vineyard. Tastings can also be enjoyed in their cozy tasting room. This Napa Valley winery also ranks high on our list because every member of the team works and plays hard together. They are a joy to be around; but when it’s time to roll up your sleeves at harvest, it’s all hands on deck. From hand-sorting and foot-treading grapes to bottling and selling wines, it’s a family affair.

We love the Zinfandel wines at Chase Cellars. They are unique to the wines produced by other Napa Valley wineries. Blended from high quality, ripe, and concentrated grapes that grow from century-old vines, their Zinfandels are a perfect balance of acidity and complexity. But, this wine remarkably accomplishes its unique taste without detracting from the purity of the berry.

Chase Cellars is just one of many wineries we visit on our Napa Valley Wine Trolley tours. If you’d like to learn more about our tours or book a Napa Valley wine tour with us, contact us at (877) WINE TROLLEY.
