Trefethen Family Historic Winery Napa ValleyNapa Valley Wine Trolley brings your group a wine-tasting experience designed to showcase the best and brightest of Napa’s wine country, including historic gems like Trefethen Family Vineyards. The Trefethen family grows a variety of grapes in the mild Oak Knoll district, perfectly situated between the high heat of northern appellations and the cool southern end of the valley. Known for Cabernets and Chardonnays—lauded by the likes of Robert Parker and Wine Enthusiast—the winery also produces award-winning Rieslings, Merlots, and both red and white blends.

Bring your Napa group wine tour to taste vintages crafted from the ground up—literally! All Trefethen wines are estate-grown, meaning the grapes were grown on-site, under the winery’s sustainability program. With access to the best fruit from the vineyard, Trefethen’s wine-making team has developed famous and beloved bottlings. Their flagship wine, HaLo, is named for the latest generation of the Trefethen family, Hailey and Loren. Made only from the finest Cabernet Sauvignon from their Hillspring Vineyard, the 2012 vintage of HaLo was named last year’s Red Wine of the Year by the Connoisseur’s Guide to California Wine.

Trefethen Family Napa ValleyBut Trefethen has more to offer your Napa group wine tour than a delicious line-up of current vintages and cellar selections. The family’s grounds are home to a winery designed and built in 1886 by Hamden McIntyre, a Scotsman who would go on to design other notable Napa Valley landmarks like Greystone, now home to the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena. The McIntyre Building, as it is now known, is the only wooden and gravity-flow winery surviving in Napa today. The structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, but sadly, was severely damaged in the Napa earthquake of 2014. The Trefethen family immediately undertook restoration efforts, and now the historic winery will officially reopen for group tasting tours in the early summer of 2017!
